About the Center

The Butte College Cosmetology Center is a satellite location of the Butte-Glenn Community College District housing the Cosmetology academic programs. We are conveniently located at 2201 Pillsbury Road in Chico, allowing easy access to the Butte College and city bus services, as well as multiple locations for lunch access for our students. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive campus where everyone feels welcome.

At the Cosmetology Center, we are committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion while supporting our students in achieving academic success. We offer support by connecting you with services offered by Butte College, whose staff work with you via phone, email, and online or in-person appointments. Services include financial programs, a student health center, a College Police department to keep our location safe, housing assistance, a food pantry, counseling, tutoring, the UndocuCenter, the Queer Resource Center, and more specialized support services. About the Program

The Butte College Cosmetology Program offers a comprehensive curriculum. Completing the required coursework and training enables a student to earn a Certificate of Achievement, multiple specialized certificates, the Associate of Science Degree in Cosmetology, and meet state licensing requirements. The two-semester Cosmetology program is currently being offered.

Each specialized certificate program provides coursework and training to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to qualify for the licensing exam offered by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, and to enter a wide range of careers in the cosmetology industry. Courses include classroom theory and performing client services in a salon setting at the Butte College Salon, providing valuable hands-on experience to our students and affordable services for the local community. We are proud to be a RISE Partner School. We know client safety goes well beyond serving up a clean and disinfected environment. We commit to cover critical topics with our students such as Domestic Abuse and Human Trafficking Awareness. All of our students will become certified in Client Well-Being and Safety, ready to protect public health, make an impact on the community, and give a voice to the most vulnerable. After you are certified, you will be eligible to apply for Milady RISE scholarships.

In order to obtain a license and practice in the state of California, students must be 17 years of age or older to take the exam, have completed the 10th grade or its equivalent, successfully complete the required course of study, and pass the state exam.
